High schools in Canada play a vital role in the educational journey of students. Secondary schools are governed by provincial education systems, and provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in post-secondary education and the future career.

High School Friends

Overview

After graduating from elementary schools students in Canada must attend high school. Secondary schools in Canada offer a variety of additional programs that enhance the core curriculum and support students' diverse interests and needs. 

To apply for the high school you may need to provide:

  • proof that your child completed grade levels that match those in Canada

  • evidence that your child can communicate in English or French

  • school results or report cards from your home country

Curriculum and programs

High schools continue and expand the elementary school programs. High school students are able to focus on the courses that they believe they need in their future career. The program can be divided into. 

  • Languages - English, French, etc.

  • Social studies - History, Geography, etc.

  • Science - Physics, Chemistry, Biology

  • Others - Computer Science, Business, P.E. Arts
